Relating In Faith: In Relationship Or Right?

So, we ended up doing some advanced biology this past Sunday – wondering about the difference between a squid brain and a human brain. There are lots of similarities (did you know that?), which is why scientists often use the squid brain to study human brain activity. But there’s also a BIG difference.

That difference between squid and human brain power is what lays behind a compelling part of Jesus’ great prayer in John 17, “Father, make them one.
This podcast challenges us to examine our lives, wondering if we’re more concerned with being right, or being in relationship with others.
What’s your life record in this respect?
What might Jesus be wanting from his apprentices?

You’re invited to download the podcast and the study guide. Grab a bible and open it to John 17:1-26. You may also want to keep a finger at John 13. Then follow along……

Relating In Faith: The Love Letter

Had someone challenge me with a totally crazy question some time ago. They wondered, “What would your faith be like if you treated the Bible with the same energy, attention, and passion that you treat your smartphone?”
Crazy, eh? How DARE they ask that?

Well, that question got me all thinking and wondering about how DO I treat the Bible? How important is it? What influence does it have on me? Do I view it more positively or negatively – how does it motivate me?Do I LOVE it? Hmmmmmmm.
Wonder what you might say about these questions?
How close to the heart and core of our Christian faith is the Bible?
Is what it teaches negotiable, or not?
This past Sunday was another in our Fall teaching series here at KCRC, “Relating In Faith.” In it we are exploring what is at the absolute core of everything the Church is and says and does.
Glad you are joining us for this conversation!

Relating In Faith: Hungry For God

Have you ever gotten involved in something, like REALLY involved, only to discover later that you had missed the most important part of whatever it was you were doing?
Many fathers discover this – some, too late. When they’ve been working hard for years and years in order to provide for their family, and then one day realize that they missed growing a relationship with their children; or realizing how far he’s drifted from his bride.

This past Sunday marked the beginning of the Fall teaching series here at KCRC, “was the end of our summer teaching series, “Relating In Faith.” We’re going to spend the next few weeks exploring what is at the absolute core of everything the Church is and says and does. Here’s to hoping you’ll be able to join us for this trek of exploration.
This first podcast explores our willingness to be vulnerable and open to the possibility of a real spiritual entity coming into our deepest personal space and occupying it.
Would you be willing to consider trying that?
What might it look and feel like?
What impact might that have on your Monday-Saturday life?

You’re invited to download the podcast and the study guide. Grab a bible and open it to Matthew 11:28, as well as putting your thumb by Colossians 1:27. And follow along……

Praying With Jesus – Yours Is The Kingdom!

“Our Father in Heaven… yours is the Kingdom and the power and the glory. Forever. Amen.”
Ever noticed how not all Christians pray these words? And have you ever tried to find them in the Bible? Hint – it WON’T be in the places, like Matthew 6, where Jesus teaches the Lord’s Prayer.
So…… WHY do we pray these words?

This past Sunday was the end of our summer teaching series, “Praying With Jesus.” And we thought about the ending words of the Lord’s Prayer. How did they get tacked onto the prayer? Why do we keep them? And what impact might they have on our lives?
Glad you joined us for this conversation.

Praying With Jesus – Deliver us!

“Our Father in Heaven… lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil….”
Ever wondered what those words of the Lord’s Prayer might mean?

Before we park the bus on our summer teaching series, “Praying With Jesus” we want to think about this challenging part of the Lord’s Prayer. This podcast, from the September 1st worship service at KCRC, wonders about where temptation comes from, what it looks like, how to face it, and what the odds might be of overcoming it.
Glad you joined us for this conversation.

Praying With Jesus – Forgive…

Forgive…. there’s a loaded thought. Whether we are looking for it, or wondering if we can ever do it.

As part of our summer teaching series, “Praying With Jesus” we’re working through the Lord’s Prayer. This podcast, from the August 25 worship service at KCRC, examines the explosive phrase, “Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.”
We’ll consider why to forgive, what forgiveness might look and feel like, and what it most certainly is NOT.
Hope you can track with us not only for this podcast, but for the rest of the series.

Praying With Jesus – Give us our daily bread

Welcome back to our adventure in prayer – tracking along with Jesus as he teaches us how to pray.

This podcast, from the August 18 live teaching time, deals with “Give us this day our daily bread.” Every little phrase in that request matters. And we’ll be ploughing through a bunch of Scripture, Old Testament and New, to see how God responds to the needs of his people over time.
We’ll also learn how this prayer shapes our own souls and minds – affecting the attitudes with which we face life.
We’re glad you’ve joined us. And really hope you’ll be able to travel with us for the remainder of this series on the Lord’s Prayer.

Praying With Jesus – Your Will Be Done

Welcome to another in KCRC’s study series on the Lord’s Prayer.

This podcast, from the August 11 live teaching time, deals with “Your will be done.” And to see that actually lived out, we followed Jesus into the Garden of Gethsemene, where he practiced what he preached.
We’ll be thinking on how this prayer is super connected to day by day choices.
How it starts small and grows.
And how it affects “spiritual inertia.”
We’ll also think a bit about how we can possibly discover what God’s will for us might be.

We’re glad you’ve joined us. And really hope you’ll be able to travel with us for the remainder of this series on the Lord’s Prayer.

Praying With Jesus – Your Kingdom Come

Welcome to KCRC’s study series on the Lord’s Prayer. Earlier this season we did an overview of the whole praying thing – what is it? How does it work? How ought apprentices of Jesus strive to practice prayer?

We’ve moved on to study the prayer that Jesus taught us. And on August 4 we considered “Your Kingdom come.” How does the power and authority of the Creator manifest in this world? And what about battles with unseen spiritual forces which oppose the power of the Creator King? How are we part of that great, yet real, unseen conflict?

We’re glad you’ve checked in today. And really hope you’ll be able to travel with us for the remainder of this series on the Lord’s Prayer.

Connecting Through Prayer – It’s Essential

We’ve been experimenting with prayer at KCRC – trying to stop regularly (like, say, every hour) to check in with God and see if he’s got something for us to notice, someone for us to connect with, or a word for us. Sometimes you have to stop and wonder – is it REALLY worth all the effort? Is it THAT important?

The June 16 podcast digs into John 6, where we see a bunch of disciples abandon Jesus. Causing him to turn to his 12 closest friends and challenge them – “Are you leaving, too?”
We’ll think about their answer, as well as the experiences of two people who took their words seriously – Brother Lawrence and Frank Laubach.
May their experiences and challenges be an inspiration to your spiritual journey!

We’re glad you’ve joined us for this podcast. Hope you can dig in with us for the remainder of the series, “Praying With Jesus” – we’ll be exploring the famous words of the Lord’s Prayer in coming weeks.
