Relating In Faith: Eating…. alone?

Have you ever notice how often Jesus eats with others? And have you ever noticed the KIND of people that Jesus enjoys sharing table with? If you haven’t, grab a bible and page through any one of the four accounts of Jesus’ life. You may be in for a surprise. You may happen across the passage which describes how he had developed a “reputation” as a party man. Can you believe it?

So what’s with that? Why do we see more of Jesus eating than teaching in a classroom?
Welcome to the closing session in our Fall teaching series, “Relating In Faith.”
The Bible passage for today is John 2.

Relating In Faith: Getting It Right, But….

Have you ever been mad at God? Yelled and screamed, raised your fist to heaven, sulked – or something because of something painful in your life or that of someone close to you?And – after all that, did you feel guilty about it? Wondering if you were ALLOWED to be mad at God?

We’re going to zoom in on a guy known in the Bible as “The Father of all believers.” In other words, in some way we as Christians all carry his legacy – for good or otherwise, whatever it’s worth, he’s our spiritual ancestor. The Bible describes a totally unbelievable, messy, painful event in Abraham’s life – Genesis 22. Lots get said about that passage as a prophetic look-ahead to the coming of Jesus. Which is true enough. But NOT what we want to key in on. We’re going to think about Abraham’s response when God tells him, “Murder and sacrifice your son. Be like all the other nations, and burn your child to appease me, your God.”
Sounds crazy, doesn’t it?
This podcast is going to force us to each examine how we connect with God, not only in the good times, but the times when things get REALLY messy.
Glad you’re here with us, ’cause you have those times in your life, too. Don’t you!

Relating In Faith: In Relationship Or Right?

So, we ended up doing some advanced biology this past Sunday – wondering about the difference between a squid brain and a human brain. There are lots of similarities (did you know that?), which is why scientists often use the squid brain to study human brain activity. But there’s also a BIG difference.

That difference between squid and human brain power is what lays behind a compelling part of Jesus’ great prayer in John 17, “Father, make them one.
This podcast challenges us to examine our lives, wondering if we’re more concerned with being right, or being in relationship with others.
What’s your life record in this respect?
What might Jesus be wanting from his apprentices?

You’re invited to download the podcast and the study guide. Grab a bible and open it to John 17:1-26. You may also want to keep a finger at John 13. Then follow along……

Relating In Faith: The Love Letter

Had someone challenge me with a totally crazy question some time ago. They wondered, “What would your faith be like if you treated the Bible with the same energy, attention, and passion that you treat your smartphone?”
Crazy, eh? How DARE they ask that?

Well, that question got me all thinking and wondering about how DO I treat the Bible? How important is it? What influence does it have on me? Do I view it more positively or negatively – how does it motivate me?Do I LOVE it? Hmmmmmmm.
Wonder what you might say about these questions?
How close to the heart and core of our Christian faith is the Bible?
Is what it teaches negotiable, or not?
This past Sunday was another in our Fall teaching series here at KCRC, “Relating In Faith.” In it we are exploring what is at the absolute core of everything the Church is and says and does.
Glad you are joining us for this conversation!
