Cadet Sunday: “Hi God, it’s me.”

On February 9th, we celebrated the ministry to boys here at KCRC known as Cadets. They are a Christian Cadet Club (CCC), where men mentor boys in what it is to live an authentic life of faith in Jesus through the very real challenges of growing up and life in general.

Their theme this year is prayer-how interested is God in hearing from us? How hard is He to get a hold of? What difference can prayer make in our lives? We explored a bit of this from Jeremiah 29: 12 under the title, Hi God, it’s me.

Secure in the Storm: “When Our Dreams Are Blown Away.”

Welcome to a new message series here at KCRC, “Secure in the Storm.” We are taking a hard look at how we can ever possibly live WELL in the midst of some of the gut-wrenching storms that assault our lives. We always have options, some destructive, while others are life-nourishing, hope giving.

Join us as we seek to avoid the former, and follow the words of Jesus and the truths in God’s Word in finding nourishing hope for the struggles that we ALL face. Ecclesiastes 9:1-11 shoves us off the pier and into the storm.

Finding Jesus… in the Old Testament: The Son of Man

For this the final message in our Epiphany Series “Finding Jesus …. ” we welcomed guest preacher, Rev. Joe Groeneveld who helped us find glimpses of Jesus…. in the Old Testament in a strange, yet powerful vision…

… given to the prophet Daniel about someone called “The Son of Man.” We find this story in Daniel 7: 1-14.

Finding Jesus…in the Old Testament: As Moses Raised the Serpent Up

On January 12 we welcomed guest preacher Rev. Aaron Thompson, who helped us find glimpses of Jesus in the Old Testament, particularly, in the story of Moses raising up a serpent on a pole… a sign of healing for the people…

….Jesus, raised up, healing for all who look to him. This story is found in Numbers 21:1-9.

Finding Jesus…in Worship

Epiphany is a word that means “a showing forth; a revelation.” How does the One whose birth we just celebrated get revealed/shown forth to the world. We’ve got a five part series planned to help explore this question. On December 29 we looked at Finding Jesus …in worship. How Jesus is revealed in our worship-a worship WITHOUT shortcuts.

Come with us as we travel with the Magi-whoever they were-as they meet and worship Jesus in Matthew 2:1-12.

The Songs Of Christmas…. Mary’s Song

She was a totally ordinary, simple, young unremarkable girl in her mid-teens. At least, that is what you’d think watching her life. But as we dig a little deeper some amazing things come to light.

This past Sunday we read Luke 1:39-56 and saw some of the strength and depth and vision of Mary’s faith in God. She is called out by God to a task that’ll land her in all sorts of trouble (which, by the way, is often how it happens down through time to called-out-people; God’s way is not the simplest way).
We watched how she responded, and what sorts of supports the Lord put into place for her to survive….. actually, more than that – to THRIVE. And this got us to look at our own lives and the supports that God puts into place for us to survive….. and to thrive.

Called By Jesus…. To Peace

Remember a time when you got angry? Or felt hurt by someone – unjustly so? Or got ripped off, and found yourself laying awake at night, trying to figure out how to get even?
If Jesus was your life coach, how do you think he’d have been directing you during those moments?

This past Sunday we read Luke 6:17-38 – where Jesus teaches exactly on this topic. How to respond to people who aren’t exactly on our warm-and-fuzzy side.
We went there as part of our visioning series, wondering about what Jesus might want us to focus on as individuals and as a community, as we move towards 2020.

Called By Jesus….Beyond Ourselves

Have you ever been served an eviction notice? Or been asked to leave a certain location because your presence wasn’t appreciated? How did it feel?
If you’ve ever had such a thing happen, you’re actually in really good company. Jesus was once tossed out of church for unruly behaviour….. while he was preaching! Actually, if the congregation had their way, that would have been the last church service he ever attended, and the last sermon he ever preached.

This past Sunday we read Luke 4:14-30 – the account of the attempted lynching.
You have to wonder – what was it that drove the crowd so crazy? Honestly, I thought people were supposed to fall asleep during a sermon, not become blood thirsty!
Seriously, though – the very end of the story tells of Jesus walking away, beyond their grasp.
And the breath-takingly horrible thing is………. he never comes back!
What’s all going on here? What’s the lesson for we pew-sitters in 2019 church?
What’s our take-away at Kemptville Christian Reformed Church as we round the corner towards the end of 2019, and the beginning of another year of life and ministry together in 2020?

Relating In Faith: Eating…. alone?

Have you ever notice how often Jesus eats with others? And have you ever noticed the KIND of people that Jesus enjoys sharing table with? If you haven’t, grab a bible and page through any one of the four accounts of Jesus’ life. You may be in for a surprise. You may happen across the passage which describes how he had developed a “reputation” as a party man. Can you believe it?

So what’s with that? Why do we see more of Jesus eating than teaching in a classroom?
Welcome to the closing session in our Fall teaching series, “Relating In Faith.”
The Bible passage for today is John 2.
