Not The Way of Caesar: Proof of a Promise – KCRC Online Service for June 28, 2020.

Not The Way of Caesar: Imagine Celebrating Weakness – KCRC Online Service for June 7, 2020.

Today we begin a new sermon series for the month of June. Rev Sid Ypma, Campus Chaplain at UOttawa will bring us four sermons based out of the early chapters of the book of Romans. We read from Romans 1:1-17 and from the Old Testament book of Habakkuk 2:2-5.

We will focus on verses 16 & 17 of Romans 1 and considering what Paul is not ashamed of. The gospel, as Paul is speaking of it here, is not just about Jesus dying for our sins, but the way in which God’s faithfulness is mediated through such a shameful and weak way…the cross.

Paul is not ashamed of this good news that it counter cultural in a  Roman empire. When he quotes from Habakkuk, we get a deeper hint at what he’s challenging. Pastor Sid will also lead us in Holy Communion together. Please join us.

‘Clean Clothes’ – KCRC Online Service for May 31, 2020.

I don’t believe in God, but if there was a God would He love me?
A very honest question right?
We welcome Rev. Joe Groeneveld, Youth and Young Adults Pastor at Williamsburg CRC to KCRC. This morning he introduces us to Maria who asked this very question.
Perhaps it is a question you have asked in the past or you can raise your hand right here, right now and stand with Maria….. and if we look hard enough Satan the accuser is right behind us reminding us of our unworthiness, our filth.

But there is good news, because the Lord is a just and gracious judge, His people can have true hope despite their sin, that is the theme of today’s message.  We hope you can join us, grab your bible as Pastor Joe takes us verse by verse through Zechariah 3.

“Praying Together In One Accord” KCRC Online Service for May 24, 2020.

Today we welcome Rev. Marilyn Savage to KCRC.
Jesus has ascended to the Father. The disciples, their hopes dashed, go back to Jerusalem with mixed feelings to continue the ministry of Jesus on their own. How can anything ever be good again? Sound familiar? We are reminded that with the God that we serve what appears to us to be endings are often beginnings.

And so in this time of uncertainty, we prayerfully and humbly seek the Holy Spirit for empowered ministry to fill and renew us to be faithful ambassadors of the good news. We do this in unity with each other in obedience to Jesus and in anticipation of his return.  We hope you can join us, grab your bible we will be reading from Act 1:1-14.

What I Am Discovering During The Pandemic – KCRC Online Service for May 17, 2020.

A fingerprint is used to identify, DNA even more so. Other ways we are identified in this world may be by our family of origin, our culture, our appearance, or status. But if you were asked what is your identity in Christ? What would your answer be? A positive outcome of this pandemic is the opportunity to rediscover our attitudes and priorities and “who we are in Christ” and “what we have in Christ”.

We welcome Pastor Shawn Ketcheson back as our guest preacher. Grab you bible we will be reading from Philippians 2:5-8. We hope you can join us.

What If Mothering Gets Hard? – KCRC Online Service for May 10, 2020.

Today we celebrate Mother’s Day. Would you agree with the saying: “What happens to your child, happens to you”? So true, isn’t it? So what do you do when your child is ill, or rebellious, or one day walks away from faith, never to return? Tough stuff!  In today’s message the women in the story whose child is ill had to pass numerous  tests (including the sense of divine silence, doubt and discouragement) prior to blessings.

She ultimately experiences God, through Jesus Christ and we can too. We welcome Pastor Shawn Ketcheson as he shares the message from Matthew 15: 21-28, so grab your bible and please join us.

The Good Shepherd, Always – KCRC Online Service for May 3, 2020.

Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked. For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless. O Lord Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in you. Psalm 84:10-12

God’s desire is for us to have an abundant life; to have life and live it in spite of….The Good Shepherd who is both the gate and the gatekeeper shows us the way. We welcome guest preacher Rev Bernie Bakker who will share God’s word as we read from John 10:1-10 and lead us in Holy Communion. Grab your bible, please join us.

Easter Aftershocks: “Seeing And Believing” KCRC Online Service for April 26, 2020.

I’d like to introduce you to someone that, I think has gotten a bad rap in the church. Everyone thinks of him as a quivering, unsure, back-of-the-bus follower of Jesus; the guy with wee-tiny faith, full of doubt disciple(ish)… Thomas.

Reality is-the guy was one of the most courageous and upfront friends of Jesus (check out how he responds to the challenging and uncertain situations in John 11 and 14).

But then there’s the time that he wasn’t around. And of course, THAT’s the moment when the most unbelievable event in history occurs. Guess what Thomas does -he doesn’t believe it. Because it is unbelievable. In that way I think he’s a lot like you and me. There is more of Thomas in us than perhaps we first care to admit. So join us as we come alongside this disciple, and in doing so reexamine our own attitudes while following the risen Jesus. We will be reading from John 20:24-31
